Our Society, situated in Peterborough, UK, provides a meeting point for like-minded members and friends sharing an interest in Model Engineering, whether it is Steam Locomotives, Traction Engines, Boats, Aircraft or Tools. There are at present approximately 100 members and the last few years have seen a steady increase to this number.
We have now left our Thorpe Hall Site. The track has been dismantled and stored for future use following a sterling effort for our members. Obviously we are sad to be leaving Thorpe Hall following many years happy steaming there nevertheless we wish the Sue Ryder organisation continued success with their valuable work at Thorpe Hall.
On a brighter note we are in the early stages of negotiations with another party to build a raised and ground level track on a new site close to Peterborough. We will keep you informed on the progress of this initiative.
Please feel free to browse at your leisure and if you would like more information on any topic or event mentioned, please send an e-mail to either address shown in ‘Contact Us’.
Our meetings take place at All Saints Church Hall, Park Road, Peterborough. PE1 2UJ and are held on the first and third Mondays of the Month with a few exceptions. Mostly the meetings held on the first Mondays are ‘Bits and Pieces’ meetings, where members bring along their work in progress or anything else that may be of interest to other members. At the other meetings we have talks on subjects associated with our hobby or we arrange visits to sites of interest. Throughout the year, we also arrange coach trips to most of the major Model Engineering Exhibitions in the UK, to see what’s new in the Model Engineering world and to buy new tools and materials.
Last year we held our annual Miniature Locomotive Rally in June, details of which can be seen in ‘Major Events’. This is something we do every year, but in 2007, we also staged an Exhibition in Thorpe Hall, an undertaking we started doing in 1995 to celebrate our 25th anniversary. In memory of one of our most loved Members, we held the ‘Clarry Edwards Memorial Competition’ again for members of this Society. Have a look at the Rally at Sacrewell Farm too, now in it's 15th year! All of these events promise an entertaining time for Steam enthusiasts of all ages.
